How we pick

This page does the work a test lab does for our competitors. It is specific enough that you can reproduce it, which is the entire point.

What we do not do

We have not tested these chargers. We do not own them. There is no lab, no garage full of units, no two-week soak test. Nobody here has plugged in a Grizzl-E and formed an impression of it.

We are stating that first, plainly, because the alternative is what most of this category does: claim a test program that leaves no evidence. Several sites ranking for these terms describe months of hands-on testing across multiple households, with no methodology document, no photographs of the equipment, and no third-party verification of any kind. We would rather be the site that says what it does not know.

What we do instead

  1. Compile published specifications from each manufacturer's own manual, datasheet or specification page, and cite the document on the page where the number appears. If a figure is not published, we say it is not published rather than filling the gap.
  2. Do the electrical arithmetic, in full view. Amps to kilowatts, kilowatts to miles of range per hour, charger rating to required circuit size. Every step is shown so you can check it -- that visibility is the substitute for a lab, and it only works if the working is on the page.
  3. Compute running costs from published rates, and state the rate used so you can substitute your own. We do not print a national average and present it as your bill.
  4. Check safety certifications against what the manufacturer publishes, and flag the wording that looks like certification without being it -- 'UL certified components', 'meets UL standards', a bare CE mark.
  5. Read the warranty as published, because long-term reliability is the thing specifications cannot tell you and a warranty is the part you can hold someone to.
  6. Read the public record -- owner reports, manufacturer bulletins, recalls -- and label it as what it is rather than dressing it up as testing.

How a pick is chosen

Weighted roughly in this order, for a first-time home buyer:

Every roundup names one safe default and then says who each alternative is genuinely better for. Every product entry carries an explicit skip this if -- a pick with no counter-case is a pick nobody can act on.

What would change a pick

  • A specification change to the unit, or its discontinuation.
  • A safety recall or the withdrawal of a certification.
  • A change in published warranty terms.
  • A sustained price shift that changes the value argument.
  • A better-suited product arriving in the category.
  • An error you point out to us.

Corrections

Errors are fixed in place. Where a correction changes the substance of a recommendation, we add a dated note saying what changed and why, rather than quietly editing it. If you have found one, tell us -- it is the most useful thing anyone sends us, and the fastest way to make this site better is for someone who knows more than we do about one specific thing to point it out.
