The best home charger for a Jaguar I-Pace

Jaguar's adapter news is about Tesla Superchargers on the road. At home the I-Pace takes a J1772 charger, so the only real question is your circuit.

The connector

CarGurus says Jaguar announced back in September 2023 that its lone electric vehicle, the I-Pace, would get an adapter in 2025. That adapter is about reaching Tesla's NACS fast chargers. At home, the CCS Combo inlet's top section is a J1772 inlet -- which is what a home charger plugs into.

Choosing the charger

The simplest install is a plug-in 40 A unit on a NEMA 14-50, which needs no hardwiring. A bigger hardwired unit only helps if the I-Pace's onboard charger accepts more -- check the AC rate in the manual first. Plug-in chargers.

1. A first charger, hardwired

The safe default for a first home charger: 48 amps hardwired, a genuinely long cable, a NEMA 4 outdoor-rated case, and no subscription attached to the app.

What is good

  • 48 A hardwired is the fastest tier most homes can realistically support

  • NEMA Type 4 enclosure is rated for outdoor mounting

  • Drops to 40 A if you use the NEMA 14-50 plug rather than hardwiring

2. Harsh weather and no app

What is good

What is not

  • 40 A ceiling, slower than the 48 A units if your panel can take more

3. Homes with an uncertain panel

The most adjustable unit here. It can be set anywhere from 16 A to 50 A, which makes it the one to buy when you do not yet know what your panel will allow.

What is good

  • 23 ft is a foot shorter than the longest cables in this group

What home charger does a Jaguar I-Pace need?
Any J1772 Level 2 charger. The I-Pace's CCS inlet accepts a J1772 plug for home charging.
Does the Jaguar I-Pace have a NACS port?
CarGurus reports that Jaguar planned a NACS adapter for the I-Pace, which means its own port is not NACS. Check it: a CCS inlet takes a J1772 home charger.
Do I need Jaguar's NACS adapter at home?
No. It is for NACS fast chargers on the road. At home, a J1772 charger plugs into the CCS inlet directly.
