Lectron CCS to NACS adapter review

The other direction: an adapter that lets a Tesla or another NACS car use CCS1 fast chargers. Check one screen on your Tesla before you buy it.

Tesla drivers mostly use Superchargers, but a CCS1 adapter widens the map. Lectron says its adapter opens more than 12,000 fast-charging stations across North America, Electrify America among them. We have not tested one; figures come from Lectron's product page, linked at the foot of this page.

Check your Tesla first

Lectron says some vehicles may need a CCS retrofit before the adapter works, and that you can check on the Tesla touchscreen under Controls > Software > Additional Vehicle Information, or in the Tesla app. Do that before buying; an adapter the car cannot use is just weight in the trunk.

Who should skip it

  • Your Tesla needs a retrofit you do not plan to get.
  • You rarely leave the Supercharger network. The adapter earns its place on routes where CCS stations fill the gaps.
  • You want home charging. At home a Tesla uses a NACS charger, or a J1772 charger with its adapter. Best home charger for a Tesla.

Can a Tesla use a CCS fast charger?
With a CCS1-to-NACS adapter such as Lectron's, if the car supports CCS. Lectron says some Teslas need a retrofit, shown under Controls > Software > Additional Vehicle Information.
Is the Lectron CCS to NACS adapter UL certified?
Lectron says it is tested and certified to UL 2252.
Does this adapter work for home charging?
No. It is a DC fast-charging adapter. Home charging is AC and uses a Level 2 charger.
