The best NACS to CCS adapters for Tesla Superchargers

A NACS-to-CCS1 adapter lets many CCS cars plug into Tesla's Superchargers. Start with your automaker's own adapter; if you buy third-party, buy one with a published UL 2252 certification.

The NACS changeover has opened Tesla's Superchargers to a growing list of non-Tesla EVs, and a car with a CCS1 port needs an adapter to plug in. The by-vehicle pages record what CarGurus reports for each brand -- Polestar, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz, for example, all have automaker adapters. This page is for the question that follows: whether a third-party adapter is a sensible buy, and which one.

What to check first

  1. Your car has Supercharger access through its automaker. Lectron's page limits the Vortex Plus to CCS1 EVs with approved automaker access.
  2. Your automaker supplies or sells an adapter. That part is designed for your car; buy it first. NACS vehicles.
  3. The Supercharger is a V3 or V4 site. Both adapters here are made for those.
  4. A published UL 2252 certification. See below.

Why UL 2252 matters

An adapter sits in the middle of a connection rated for hundreds of amps at up to 1,000 volts. UL 2252 is the standard written for exactly this kind of device, and the site's position on every charging accessory is the same: a listing from a recognized laboratory, stated plainly. Questions people actually ask

Can I use a NACS to CCS adapter at any Supercharger?
Only at V3 and V4 Superchargers, per both makers, and only if your car's automaker has Supercharger access. Lectron says its adapter will not work on V2 Superchargers.
Is a third-party NACS to CCS adapter safe?
Buy one with a published UL 2252 certification, such as the Lectron Vortex Plus, and follow your automaker's guidance. Your automaker's own adapter, if it offers one, is the first choice.
Can I use a NACS to CCS adapter to charge at home?
No. These are DC fast-charging adapters. At home you use a Level 2 charger, with a J1772 adapter only if your car and charger need one.
