What the display actually buys you

The LCD shows current, voltage, power and status. On a connected charger that information lives in an app; on a portable with no connectivity, having it on the unit is the difference between knowing what is happening and guessing.

It matters most exactly where a portable gets used -- an unfamiliar outlet at someone else's property, where seeing the actual voltage and current tells you whether the circuit is coping.

The delay timer

A 1-to-10-hour delay lets you plug in at 6pm and start charging at midnight without an app, an account or a car that supports scheduling. On a budget portable that is a sensible piece of engineering: it solves the off-peak problem with a button rather than a cloud service.
