Most home chargers stop at 48 A, the figure that lands on a standard 60-amp breaker. These three go to 50 A, which moves the circuit up to 70 amps for under half a kilowatt more. That can be worth it -- but only for a car and a panel that can use it. The 48-amp picks.

The two checks before you buy
- Your car's onboard charger. If it accepts less than 12 kW, a 50 A unit charges no faster than a 48 A or 40 A one. The AC charging rate is in the owner's manual. Chargers for an electric truck covers the vehicles most likely to use it.
- Your panel. A 70 A circuit needs real headroom after everything else in the house. Load calculation.
