For a Tesla owner, the FLO's NACS option makes this a fair fight for the first time: both units plug straight in, and both charge at a rate most Teslas can use. The choice comes down to the household around the car.

The differences that matter

  • Warranty. Four years against three.
  • Plug-in option. Only the FLO can plug into a NEMA 14-50, at up to 40 A. Hardwired vs plug-in.
  • A second EV. Tesla's power sharing lets two units split one circuit. Two-EV households.
  • A non-Tesla later. The FLO's J1772 version charges any EV, a Tesla included through its adapter. The Gen 3 needs a NACS-to-J1772 adapter for a J1772 car. Adapters.

1. 50 A with an app

A 50-amp, Type 4X home charger adjustable from 6 A, sold with a J1772 or NACS connector and a 25 ft cable, hardwired or on a NEMA 14-50 plug. ENERGY STAR listed.

Tesla Wall Connector (Gen 3)

48 A, a 24 ft cable and a four-year warranty, the longest in this group. The catch is the connector: Gen 3 is NACS, so a J1772 car needs an adapter.

What is good

  • Four-year warranty, longer than the three-year standard here
  • Up to six units can share one circuit for a two-EV household
  • Wi-Fi with over-the-air firmware updates
  • Scheduled departure and charge stats live in the Tesla app

What is not

  • NACS connector, so a J1772 car needs an adapter on every charge
