The short version: a plug-in Level 2 charger that runs from a NEMA 14-50 and drops to a standard household outlet with the included adapter. It is the travel unit, not the garage unit, and it is priced accordingly.

On a NEMA 14-50 at 32 A: 32 x 240 = 7.7 kW, about 27 miles of range per hour
Over a 10-hour night: about 270 miles
On a standard 120 V outlet with the adapter: about 5 miles per hour
The outlet decides the speed. The charger just has to be able to use both.

Where it fits
The case for a unit like this is flexibility rather than speed. It works at a rental with a dryer outlet, at a relative's house, at a campground with the right adapter, and at home if you already have a suitable 240-volt socket. It also comes with you when you move, which a hardwired charger does not.
Against the J+ Booster 2, the Lectron gives up amperage and the ruggedized body, and costs less. Against a wall unit, it gives up speed, weather rating and a permanent connection.
Who should not buy it
- You have a garage and are staying put. A wall unit is faster, tidier and does not live in your trunk.
- You need the fastest possible portable. The J+ Booster 2 runs at 40 A.
- You want it mounted outside permanently. Portables are not rated for that. Outdoor units.
- You will unplug it daily. Repeated cycling wears a NEMA 14-50 receptacle faster than it was designed for -- what to specify.
