The connector

Volkswagen publishes that the 2026 ID.4 is equipped with a Combined Charging System (CCS) charge port and requires a NACS DC adapter to charge at Supercharger-style stations. Those adapters come standard with all model year 2026 Volkswagen EVs.

For home charging, that means the simplest possible answer: a CCS port's upper section is a J1772 inlet, so any J1772 Level 2 charger connects directly with nothing extra. The port is on the rear right of the car.

How fast it will charge at home

Your car's onboard charger sets the ceiling, and it varies by model year and trim. Find the AC charging rate in the owner's manual -- we will not print a per-trim figure we cannot cite for your specific car.

Cable length, because of where the port sits

The ID.4's charge port is on the rear right. If you park nose-in and your wall is on the left, the cable has to travel the length and width of the car. Measure the real path, parked the way you actually park, and add three feet of slack before choosing a model -- how to measure. This is the one specification you cannot fix after installation.

2. Homes with an uncertain panel

3. Long reach outdoors

What charger do I need for a Volkswagen ID.4?
A J1772 Level 2 charger. Volkswagen publishes the 2026 ID.4 as having a CCS charge port, and a CCS port's AC section is J1772, so a J1772 charger connects directly.
Does the VW ID.4 have a NACS port?
The 2026 ID.4 uses CCS. Volkswagen supplies a NACS DC adapter with model year 2026 EVs for Supercharger access, which is a fast-charging item and does not affect home charging.
Can I use the supplied NACS adapter at home?
No. It is a DC fast-charging adapter for public Superchargers. Home charging is AC and uses the J1772 connector directly.
How many amps should my ID.4 charger be?
Take the lowest of three limits: what your driving needs, what the car's onboard charger accepts (check the manual), and what your panel can feed. Between 32 and 48 amps covers almost every household.
