Tiebreaker 1: plug-in or hardwired

Only the Autel can be plugged in. If you want to take the charger with you, or you already have a suitable 240-volt receptacle, that decides it before anything else does.

Tiebreaker 2: the amperage ceiling

50 A vs 48 A, and what each needs

Autel at 50 A: 50 x 240 = 12.0 kW, on a 70 A circuit (50 x 1.25 = 62.5, rounded up)

Pulsar Plus at 48 A: 48 x 240 = 11.5 kW, on a 60 A circuit

The difference is about two miles of range per hour at 3.5 mi/kWh

The Autel's 50 A is real, but a 70 A circuit is rare in a home panel. For most people both units effectively top out at 48 A -- see the 48-amp roundup.

Tiebreaker 3: the wall

The Pulsar Plus is under eight inches square. If your only free wall is a narrow strip, that settles it. If you have room, it does not matter.

The 25 ft cable is the longest in this group, and the NEMA 4 case plus a cold-flexible cord make it the easiest unit to live with on an exposed outside wall.

The smallest 48 A unit here at roughly 7.8 by 7.9 inches, which matters more than it sounds when the only free wall is beside a door.

  • Weighs 4.4 lb without the cable, so mounting is simple

  • Hardwired only at 48 A, with no plug-in version at full output
  • Setup runs through the app, which some owners find fussy

The verdict

Autel if you want a plug-in option or Bluetooth control. Pulsar Plus if you are hardwiring anyway and want the smallest unit on the wall. Either way you have the longest cable available -- measure the run properly to be sure you need it.

Neither -- both publish 25 ft, the longest of the wall-mounted units we cover.
Can the Autel MaxiCharger be plugged in?
Yes, it is sold in NEMA 14-50 and 6-50 plug-in versions at 40 A, and a 50 A hardwired version. The 48 A Pulsar Plus is hardwired only.
Is 50 amps worth it over 48 amps?
Rarely. A 50 A charger needs a 70 A circuit, and the gain is about two miles of range per hour.
