A very large electric truck and SUV with a CCS port. A J1772 home charger plugs straight in -- and the battery is big enough that the circuit size genuinely matters.

The connector

CarGurus lists the GMC Hummer EV in GM's EV lineup and reports that GM's existing EVs, apart from the 2026 Optiq twins, have a NACS adapter available for NACS fast chargers. Its own port is CCS, whose AC section is a J1772 inlet -- so any J1772 home charger connects directly.

How much the circuit matters

An illustrative 100 kWh refill -- your number will differ

At 32 A (7.7 kW): about 13 hours

At 40 A (9.6 kW): about 10 hours 25 minutes

At 48 A (11.5 kW): about 8 hours 40 minutes

At 50 A (12 kW): about 8 hours 20 minutes

A truck this size may regularly need more than a night at a smaller setting. Confirm the onboard charger's rate in the manual, then have the panel checked for a 60-70 A circuit. Load calculation.

The chargers in detail

Two high-output J1772 units and a dual-connector unit, each with the case against it.

1. Homes with an uncertain panel

ChargePoint Home Flex

ChargePoint · J1772 · 50 A / 12 kW · 23 ft cable

The most adjustable unit here. It can be set anywhere from 16 A to 50 A, which makes it the one to buy when you do not yet know what your panel will allow.

What is good

  • Six selectable amperage settings from 16 A to 50 A
  • Sold in both hardwired and NEMA 14-50 versions
  • Rated for indoor or outdoor installation
  • The app is mature and does not require a subscription

What is not

  • 23 ft is a foot shorter than the longest cables in this group
  • The 50 A setting needs a bigger circuit than most panels have spare

2. Long reach outdoors

Autel MaxiCharger AC Home

Autel Energy · J1772 · 50 A / 12 kW · 25 ft cable

The 25 ft cable is the longest in this group, and the NEMA 4 case plus a cold-flexible cord make it the easiest unit to live with on an exposed outside wall.

What is good

  • 25 ft cable, the longest of the wall units here
  • Sold in NEMA 14-50, NEMA 6-50 and hardwired versions
  • NEMA Type 4 enclosure rated for rain, snow, hail and sleet

3. A two-car, two-connector garage

Tesla Universal Wall Connector

Tesla · J1772 + NACS · 48 A / 11.5 kW · 24 ft cable

The Wall Connector with a J1772 adapter built into the holster, so it charges a Tesla and a non-Tesla without anything loose to lose.

What is good

  • Charges NACS and J1772 cars without a separate adapter to store
  • Same 48 A output and four-year warranty as the Gen 3
  • The adapter docks in the holster, so it cannot walk off

What is not

  • Costs more than the NACS-only Gen 3
  • Hardwired only
