A wall charger on an open driveway, a townhouse wall or a shared garage can be used by anyone who parks beside it. Access control stops that. Two chargers on this site publish it in different ways: one with a card, one with an app.

When you need it

When you do not

A charger in a closed garage is behind a locked door already, and access control adds nothing but a step. If you would rather have no app at all, a simpler unit may suit you better. Chargers without an app.

Leviton's hardwired 48-amp EV Series unit: an 18 ft J1772 cord, a NEMA Type 3R enclosure rated -22 F to 122 F, optional RFID access control and ENERGY STAR certification. The EV48W version adds Wi-Fi and the My Leviton app.

A 50-amp, Type 4X home charger adjustable from 6 A, sold with a J1772 or NACS connector and a 25 ft cable, hardwired or on a NEMA 14-50 plug. ENERGY STAR listed.
