The best EV chargers when you park on a driveway
Plenty of people charge at home without a garage. The enclosure rating stops being a footnote and the cable length stops being negotiable.

A driveway installation is completely normal and completely safe when the equipment is rated for it. What changes is that three specs you could shrug at indoors -- enclosure rating, cable length and physical protection -- all become decisions.

Mount it on the house first
Before pricing a pedestal or a post, check whether the house wall nearest where you park can take the charger. It almost always can, and it removes trenching, a freestanding mount and a second set of weatherproofing from the job.
Measure the real cable path from that wall to your charge port, parked the way you actually park, and add three feet. If it is close, buy the longer cable -- how to measure. If the wall genuinely will not work, detached garage installations covers what a remote feed involves.
What the enclosure rating has to say

Four things driveway owners forget
- Point the holster down. A connector left face-up collects water. Every unit ships with a holster; mount it so the connector hangs downward.
- Protect it from the car. If the charger is where a vehicle could strike it, a bollard or wheel stop is worth it -- and an inspector may require protection.
- Think about sun. A south-facing wall with no shade is hard on enclosures and cables over years. Under an eave if you have the choice.
- Think about cold. Cable stiffness is the thing you will actually curse at. Cold weather charging.

2. Long reach outdoors
