Cable management
The best EV charging cable wall arm
A charging cable on the floor is the single most common complaint in a garage with a wall charger. An arm takes it off the floor, over the car, and out of the weather -- if your cable is inside two published limits.

How this page is funded: we earn a commission if you buy through our Amazon links, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we recommend, and we say plainly when the honest answer is to buy nothing. Full disclosure.
The verdict: buy the BARKAN 32-inch cable arm. It is the cheapest product in this category from a maker that publishes what it is rated for, it lifts the cable above head height and routes most of it inside the arm so the cable is a conduit run rather than a loop on the floor, and it comes with a wall holder for a portable charger's control box in the same box. Go to the 63-inch version only if the car genuinely parks away from the charger wall. If there is no wall to use, the floor-to-ceiling column is the honest answer and it is a different kind of purchase -- electrician work, concrete anchors, two to three times the money.

Measure three things before you buy
- Reach. Park the car as you normally do and measure from the charger wall to the charge port. An arm needs to reach past that, because the cable then has to loop into the port rather than arrive taut.
- Cable diameter. Wrap a strip of paper round the cable, mark it, measure the strip and divide by 3.14. BARKAN's limit is 0.7 in / 18 mm, and that is the number that disqualifies an arm.
- Cable weight. Lift the cable. BARKAN rates for 11 lb / 5 kg and says it safety-tested at 44 lb / 20 kg. A 25-foot 48 A cable is heavy, and the rating is on the cable, not the connector.
| Situation | Buy | Published reach | Who should skip it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car parks alongside the charger wall | BARKAN 32 in arm | 32 in / 80 cm | A garage where the car parks in the far bay -- it will not reach |
| Car parks across the garage, or in a driveway bay | BARKAN 63 in arm | 63 in / 160 cm | A tight single garage: 63 inches of arm is a lot of intrusion |
| Covered parking with no usable wall | BARKAN 137 in floor-to-ceiling column | 95-137 in adjustable | Anyone with a wall -- it is several times the price of an arm |
| Only the connector ends up on the floor | A holster dock and J-hook | n/a | Nobody. This is the twenty-dollar answer and most people should try it first |
| Driveway or pad, no wall and no ceiling | A pedestal | 61.7 in tall | Anyone whose charger has no M4 base or adapter plate -- check first |
What an arm actually does that a hook does not
A hook holds a coil. An arm holds the cable along its length and carries the connector out to the car. BARKAN's description is the useful one: the mount conceals most of the cable inside itself and "serves as a cable conduit". In practice that means three separate problems go away at once. The cable is not on the floor, so it is not in the meltwater and not under a tire. It is above head height, so nobody walks into it. And the run between the charger and the connector is supported, so the cable is not hanging on its own strain relief all night.
The included control-box holder is worth noticing. If you charge with a portable Level 2 unit rather than a wall charger, the heavy control box normally hangs off its own plug in the receptacle -- which is the failure this site keeps writing about from other directions. BARKAN puts a wall holder for that box in the box. Where to mount a portable EV charger is the full version of that problem.
The no-wall case, and what it really costs
The floor-to-ceiling column is the one product here that is not a weekend job. BARKAN publishes the honest version: it anchors into concrete at both the ceiling and the floor, it takes up to 110 lb with safety testing to 330 lb, it will carry two charging stations on modular rails, the supply cable runs inside the pole -- and "wiring and station setup must be performed by a certified electrician according to the installation instructions". If you are reading this page because there is genuinely no wall in reach, that is the product. If you are reading it because the wall is awkward, an arm is cheaper and nothing needs to be anchored overhead.
A pedestal is the third route and it answers a different question: a driveway or pad with no wall and no ceiling. The best EV charger pedestals and mounts covers the mounting-interface trap that catches people there -- your charger needs an M4 thread base or its own adapter plate, and chargers vary enormously.
The six picks
1. A single parking space, charger on the same wall

BARKAN 32 in / 80 cm protective EV charging cable wall arm (EV80WM)
BARKAN · Cable accessory
The cheapest honest answer to a cable on the floor: a zinc-coated arm that lifts the cable above head height, hides most of it inside the arm, and comes with a wall holder for a portable charger's control box. BARKAN publishes the cable diameter it fits, which is the number that decides whether any of this works.
What is good
- Publishes the cable diameter and cable weight it is rated for -- almost nothing in this category does
- Routes most of the cable inside the arm, so it is a conduit rather than just a hook
- Ships with a wall holder for a portable charger's control box, usually a separate purchase
- 5-year warranty, and the coating is specified for rain and sun rather than described as weatherproof
- Adjustable handle doubles as the handle store and the cable coil
What is not
- 0.7 in diameter limit rules out the thickest 48 A cables -- measure yours first
- 11 lb cable limit is a real ceiling on a long heavy cord
- Needs a solid wall or beam; drywall alone is not on BARKAN's list
- A post adapter for metal poles is sold separately
- At 32 inches it is the short one; a car parked wide needs the longer arm
| Maximum distance from the wall | 32 in / 80 cm |
|---|---|
| Fits cable diameter | Up to 0.7 in / 18 mm |
| Cable weight supported | 11 lb / 5 kg; safety tested at 44 lb / 20 kg |
| Recommended installation height | 91 in / 230 cm |
| Mounting surfaces | Block, concrete, wooden beams, or a square wooden post at least 4 in / 10 cm |
| Weather | Indoor and outdoor; zinc coating plus UV additives |
| In the box | Disassembled arm, adjustable handle, strap, a wall holder for the control box, screws and anchors |
| Warranty | 5 years |
| Color | Black |
Skip this if: Skip it if your cable is thicker than 0.7 in or heavier than 11 lb -- BARKAN publishes both limits. Skip this length if the car parks more than a yard out from the wall; the 63-inch arm exists for that.

2. A car that parks away from the charger wall

BARKAN 63 in / 160 cm protective EV charging cable wall arm (EV160WM2)
BARKAN · Cable accessory
The same arm at nearly twice the reach: 63 inches from the wall, which is what a car parked across a two-car garage or in the far driveway bay actually needs. Same published limits -- 0.7 inch cable, 11 lb.
What is good
- 63 in of reach covers a car in the far bay without stretching the cable
- Same published cable diameter and weight ratings as the short arm
- Cable runs inside the arm, out of the weather and off the floor
- Control-box holder included, so a portable charger stops hanging off its own plug
- 5-year warranty
What is not
- Reaches 63 in into the space when extended -- think about door swings and walkways
- Same 0.7 in cable limit, so a thick 48 A cord still will not fit
- More leverage on the fixings, so the wall matters even more than on the short arm
- Costs noticeably more than the 32 in version for the same hardware
| Maximum distance from the wall | 63 in / 160 cm |
Skip this if: Skip it if 32 inches already reaches; the shorter arm costs less and intrudes less. Skip both if your cable is thicker than 0.7 in.

3. A bay with no wall and a feed coming from the ceiling

BARKAN 137 in / 350 cm telescopic floor-to-ceiling EV charger column (EV350FC)
BARKAN · Panel-mounted
A floor-to-ceiling pole for a garage or carport with no usable wall: adjustable from 95 to 137 inches, rated to 110 lb, takes one or two chargers on modular rails, and the supply cable runs inside the pole.
What is good
- Solves the no-wall case without a concrete footing -- it braces floor to ceiling
- 110 lb published capacity takes any home charger on this site with room to spare
- Takes two chargers on one pole, which is the two-EV case without a second structure
- Supply cable hidden inside the pole instead of stapled across a joist
- 5-year warranty and published load testing to 330 lb
What is not
- Needs concrete at the ceiling as well as the floor
- Electrician work by BARKAN's own instruction -- not a hang-it-yourself accessory
- Expensive next to a wall bracket, and only worth it when there is genuinely no wall
- A pole in a parking bay is a thing to reverse into; position it before you anchor it
| Adjustable height | 95 in to 137 in / 240 to 350 cm |
|---|---|
| Load supported | 110 lb / 50 kg; safety tested to 330 lb / 150 kg |
| Chargers | Up to two charging stations |
| Cable routing | Power cables concealed within the pole, entering through a side opening near the ceiling |
| Rails | Modular, adjustable height for stations, cable hooks, switches and holders |
| Fixings | BARKAN screws and anchors for ceiling and floor concrete |
| Installation | Wiring and station setup by a certified electrician |
| Warranty | 5 years |
| Color | Black |
Skip this if: Skip it if you have a wall. A bracket or an arm costs a fraction of this and needs no ceiling anchor. Skip it too if the ceiling is not concrete or a structure an anchor can hold.

4. J1772 connectors

Lectron J1772 holster dock and J-hook
Lectron · J1772
A steel dock that latches a J1772 connector and a hook for the cable, rated by Lectron for indoor and outdoor use. Fits all J1772 connectors.
What is good
- Anti-corrosive steel rather than plastic
- Latches the connector so it stays put
- Hook keeps the cable off the ground
What is not
- J1772 only
- No holder for a portable's control box -- see the holder set
- Check your charger does not already have a holster
| Fits | All J1772 connectors |
|---|---|
| Material | Anti-corrosive steel |
| Use | Indoor or outdoor |
| In the box | Dock and J-hook, with mounting hardware |
Skip this if: Skip it if your connector is a Tesla (NACS) -- this dock is shaped for J1772.
Specifications above are the manufacturer’s published figures. Source: Lectron. We have not tested this unit — see how we pick.
5. Tesla connectors

Lectron Tesla NACS holster dock and J-hook
Lectron · NACS
A dock that grips a Tesla connector and a J-hook that keeps the cable off the floor, sold for indoor and outdoor mounting. Made for Tesla's Mobile Connector and Wall Connector.
What is good
- Grips the connector so it cannot drop to the floor
- J-hook keeps the cable off the ground, preventing kinks
- Sold for indoor and outdoor mounting
What is not
- Tesla (NACS) connectors only
- Material is not stated beyond weather-resistant
- Check your charger does not already have a holster
| Fits | Tesla Mobile Connector and Wall Connector |
|---|---|
| Use | Indoor or outdoor |
| In the box | Dock, J-hook, 4 screws, 4 wall plugs |
Skip this if: Skip it if your charger has a J1772 connector -- NACS and J1772 docks are different shapes.

6. A charger with no wall to hang it on

VIVO EV Charging Stand (STAND-EV01C)
VIVO · Panel-mounted
A 61.7-inch steel pedestal for a driveway or parking pad, with an overhead baffle, a cable holder and a magnetic charge-port cover in the box. The catch is the mounting interface: your charger needs an M4 thread base or its own wall plate.
What is good
- Puts a charger on a driveway or parking pad with no wall at all
- Overhead baffle shelters the charger without a carport
- Cable holder and universal nozzle holster built in, so the cable leaves the ground
- Includes a waterproof magnetic cover for the car's charge port
- 3-year warranty and a published specification table, which the unbranded pedestals do not have
What is not
- Your charger must have an M4 thread base or bring its own adapter plate -- check before buying
- 33 lb weight capacity rules out the heaviest hardwired units
- VIVO's prose calls it stainless steel while its own specification table says steel and plastic; we quote the table
- Needs a solid surface and anchoring, which is concrete work if you do not already have a pad
- Does nothing a wall bracket would not do if you have a usable wall
| Total dimensions | 11 x 7.9 x 61.7 in |
|---|---|
| Pole dimensions | 2.4 x 1.6 in |
| Weight capacity | 33 lb |
| Material | Steel and plastic, per VIVO's specification table |
| Surface finish | Powder coating |
| Mounting surface | Concrete floors, driveways and sidewalks |
| Charger interface | M4 thread base on the charger, or its own wall mount / adapter plate |
| Weather protection | Overhead baffle above the charger |
| In the box | Stand, cable holder with universal nozzle, waterproof magnetic charge-port cover |
| Compatibility | US EVs, American Standard (J1772-style) only |
| Warranty | 3 years |
| Returns | 30 days, per VIVO |
| SKU | STAND-EV01C |
Skip this if: Skip it if you have a usable wall -- a bracket is cheaper and needs no concrete. Skip it too if your charger weighs more than 33 lb or has no M4 base and no adapter plate.
Specifications above are the manufacturer’s published figures. Source: VIVO. We have not tested this unit — see how we pick.
Install notes worth reading first
- Height. BARKAN's recommended installation height is 91 in / 230 cm. That is above a door head in most garages -- check the ceiling and the door track before you drill.
- Substrate. Block, concrete, wooden beams, or a square wooden post of at least 4 in / 10 cm. If the wall is drywall over studs, find the stud; if it is drywall over nothing, this is not the product.
- Metal posts. BARKAN sells a separate adapter for round or square metal posts from 3 in to 6.2 in. It is not in the box.
- Outdoors. The arms are specified for outdoor use with a zinc coating plus UV additives, which is a material claim rather than an enclosure rating. EV charger safety certifications explains why those are different things.
- Door swings. A 63-inch arm extended is a 63-inch obstruction. Think about the car door, the house door and the walkway before you commit to a position.
