The best EV charger pedestals and mounts

Most home chargers go on a garage wall and need nothing but a bracket. If yours cannot, there are three real answers -- and one specification that decides whether any of them will actually bolt to your charger.

By Sawyer V. · Published October 12, 2026

VIVO EV Charging Stand (STAND-EV01C)
Our top pick, the VIVO EV Charging Stand (STAND-EV01C). Product photo from Amazon.

How this page is funded: we earn a commission if you buy through our Amazon links, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we recommend, and we say plainly when the honest answer is to buy nothing. Full disclosure.

The verdict, up front. If you park on a driveway or a pad with no wall in reach, the VIVO EV Charging Stand is the pedestal to buy -- it is the only one in the category from a brand that publishes a full specification table and backs it with a three-year warranty, and the overhead baffle plus the built-in cable holder mean it is a complete answer rather than just a pole. If you do have a wall but the charger will sit outdoors or in a shared spot, the VIVO Protective Box is the only lockable enclosure on this site with published dimensions and a real warranty. And if you have a normal garage wall, buy neither: a twenty-dollar holster and J-hook is the entire job.

First, do you actually need one?

This page exists because the answer is sometimes yes, but it is usually no, and a pedestal is a hundred dollars plus concrete work. Work through this honestly before you shop:

Wall, pedestal, or enclosure?
Your situationWhat you needWhy
Garage wall within cable reach of the portA bracket and a holsterThe charger ships with its wall mount; you need somewhere to hang the cable
Carport or exterior wall within reachWall mount plus an outdoor-rated chargerThe wall is free and stronger than any pole
Driveway or parking pad, no wall in reachA pedestalThe only way to get the connector to the car without a trip hazard
Detached garage, charger on the far sideUsually a wall -- on the garageCheaper than a pedestal and a circuit run. See detached garage
Exposed street-side or shared parking spotWall mount plus a lockable enclosureAccess control matters more than weather here
Rented parking spaceProbably none of theseFixings are landlord territory. See chargers for renters
A pedestal is not a way to avoid an electrician. The circuit still has to get to the pedestal, which usually means a trench or a conduit run -- see the installation notes near the bottom of this page.

One more framing point. The Department of Energy is clear that outdoor home charging is fine provided the equipment is rated for outdoor use, which every charger on this site with a published Type 4 or NEMA rating is. A pedestal does not make an indoor-rated charger outdoor-safe. It solves position, not protection. Best outdoor EV charger ranks on the enclosure rating itself.

The four things to check, in order

1. How your charger attaches -- the one that catches people

This is the specification nobody checks and the reason pedestals get returned. VIVO states it plainly for its stand: your charger must have an M4 thread base on the back, or it must include its own wall mount or adapter plate that can be fixed to the pedestal. Chargers vary enormously here. Some ship a separate backplate that screws to a wall and then clips the charger on -- those generally adapt fine. Some have molded-in mounting holes at their own spacing -- those may not.

Look at the back of your charger, or at the mounting section of its manual, before you order anything. If the manual does not show the hole pattern, ask the charger's maker, not the pedestal's.

2. Weight, which is usually fine

The VIVO stand publishes a 33 lb capacity. We checked that against every charger on this site that publishes a weight, and the answer is reassuring:

Published charger weights against the 33 lb limit
ChargerPublished weightUnder 33 lb?
Wallbox Pulsar Plus4.4 lb without the cableYes, easily
Enphase HCS-8017.8 lbYes
Grizzl-E Mini Connect19.84 lb shippedYes
Autel MaxiCharger AC 80A20.3 lb with the 19 ft cableYes
Grizzl-E Ultimate 48A24.25 lbYes
Grizzl-E Ultimate 80A26.46 lbYes, with less margin
DEWALT 48 ANot publishedUnknown -- ask DEWALT
Shipped weights include packaging, so the installed figure is lower in several of these rows. The point of the table is that weight is rarely the binding constraint; the mounting interface above is.

3. What it bolts to

VIVO specifies concrete floors, driveways and sidewalk applications for the stand. That means anchors into a solid slab. A 61.7-inch pole carrying a charger and a heavy cable, in a place cars maneuver, is not something to set in soft ground or bolt to pavers. If you do not already have a slab where the charger needs to be, the concrete is a real part of the project cost and it needs to be part of the quote.

4. Cable management and weather

A pedestal without a cable holder just moves the problem: the cable still ends up on the ground, where it gets driven over and, in winter, frozen into the slush. The VIVO stand includes a cable holder with a universal nozzle holster and an overhead baffle above the charger. Both matter more than they sound. Where to mount an EV charger makes the same argument for wall installs, and a frozen charge port is what happens when the connector lives on the floor.

How we picked, and what we did not rank

We searched the category and found plenty of purchasable pedestals in the $80 to $290 range. Almost all of them are unbranded marketplace listings -- names that exist only as an Amazon seller, with no company website, no specification table, no warranty you could claim and no published weight capacity. For a $14 cable tidy that would not matter much. For a steel pole holding a $500 charger upright in a space cars reverse into, it does.

So this page ranks the two products in the category from a brand with a real specification record, and says so rather than padding the list to five. That is the same standard the site applies to cheap marketplace chargers. One brand R6 had looked at, Inteset, turned out not to be an EV hardware maker at all -- its own website is kiosk-lockdown software -- so its listing has no manufacturer record behind it and is not ranked.

Best pedestal: VIVO EV Charging Stand (STAND-EV01C)

A 61.7-inch powder-coated steel pole for concrete, driveways and sidewalks, with a 33 lb charger capacity, an overhead baffle, and a cable holder with a universal nozzle holster. VIVO also includes a waterproof cover that sits over the charger nozzle and magnets to the side of the car over the charge port. Three-year warranty, 30-day returns, and a full published specification table -- which, in this category, is the headline feature.

Who it is for: anyone charging on a driveway or pad with no wall within cable reach, whose charger has an M4 base or its own adapter plate.

Who should skip it: anyone with a usable wall, which is most people. Also skip it if your charger has no M4 base and no adapter plate, if it weighs over 33 lb, or if you have no slab to anchor into -- the concrete work can cost more than the pedestal.

Honest cons: the mounting interface is a real compatibility risk and VIVO puts the onus on you to check it. VIVO's marketing prose calls the stand stainless steel while its own specification table says steel and plastic; we quote the table. And the bundled magnetic port cover comes with no published test behind it -- VIVO does not claim one -- so treat it as a bonus item rather than a reason to buy. Our view on port covers has not changed.

Best lockable enclosure: VIVO EV Charger Protective Box (MOUNT-EVCG1)

A 19.7 x 9.8 x 27.6 inch steel box with an outdoor powder-coated finish, a tempered glass front panel, two side vents and a safety padlock with key. The glass is the clever part: you can read the charger's status lights with the door shut and locked, which is the thing that makes most enclosures annoying. It mounts to a wood stud or to concrete and brick, weighs 27.5 lb empty, and carries a three-year warranty.

Who it is for: a charger on an exposed exterior wall, a shared driveway, a duplex, or any spot where you would rather the connector was not available to passers-by.

Who should skip it: anyone whose charger lives in a locked garage. It is solving weather and access problems you do not have, and 27.5 lb of steel on the wall is not free.

Honest cons: measure first -- those are external dimensions and an 80-amp unit is a big object. VIVO publishes no IP or NEMA rating for the box, so we cannot call it weatherproof, only enclosed and vented. A padlock deters the opportunist and nothing more. And if access control is your actual goal, a charger with built-in RFID locks the electricity rather than the box.

Best for everyone else: a wall holster and J-hook

If you have a wall, this is the whole job. An anti-corrosive steel dock holds the J1772 connector at hand height and the J-hook carries the cable's weight, for roughly a tenth of what a pedestal costs. It is the most-used and least-bought accessory in home charging, and it is on this page because for most readers arriving at a pedestal search, it is the correct answer.

Who it is for: anyone with a wall-mounted charger and a cable currently living on the floor.

Who should skip it: NACS households -- this is the J1772 version and connectors are not interchangeable. Check the end of your cable first. Plug types explained.

Honest cons: Lectron publishes very little about it -- no dimensions, no weight, no load rating. It is a simple passive part and the risk is low, but the record is thin compared with the VIVO items. The cable organizer roundup covers the alternatives.

Will your charger fit the box?

We are not going to assert fitment, but we can put the published numbers next to each other so you can do it in ten seconds. The VIVO box is 19.7 x 9.8 x 27.6 in externally. Compare that with the charger dimensions their makers publish, and leave room for the cable and the door to close:

Published charger dimensions, for you to compare
ChargerPublished dimensionsNote
Wallbox Pulsar Plus7.8 x 7.9 x 3.9 in, body onlyThe smallest 48 A unit here
Grizzl-E Ultimate 48A and 80A10.25 x 6.25 x 3.75 in, enclosureSame enclosure on both models
Autel MaxiCharger AC 80A14.5 x 8.5 x 5.1 inAlso offered with a pedestal mount by Autel
Enphase HCS-8019.7 x 8.9 x 5.3 inEnphase sells its own pedestal separately
External box dimensions against charger dimensions is an indication, not a guarantee -- cable entry, the holster and the door swing all take space. Measure, and check the maker's own mounting guidance. Two of these makers sell a pedestal for their own unit, which is worth pricing against a universal one.

That last note is worth repeating: both Enphase and Autel publish pedestal mounting as an option for their own chargers. If you own one of those, price the maker's own pedestal before a universal one -- the mounting interface is guaranteed to match, which is the exact problem this page opens with.

Installation notes nobody mentions

  1. The circuit still has to get there. A pedestal in the middle of a driveway means a buried conduit run from the panel, which is trenching. Get that into the quote before you buy the pole. EV charger installation cost has the published ranges.
  2. Voltage drop matters on a long run. A pedestal is usually further from the panel than a garage wall, and distance costs voltage. Voltage drop on a long run has the table.
  3. Think about where cars actually swing. A 61.7-inch pole is at bumper and mirror height. Put it where a car cannot clip it while reversing, and where the cable does not cross the walking route.
  4. Anchor into sound concrete. Not pavers, not asphalt patch, not soil. If the slab is not there, the slab is part of the job.
  5. Measure the reach from the pedestal to the port, with the car parked the way you actually park it -- the same rule as a wall install. Cable length guide.
  6. Permits apply the same way. A new 240-volt circuit needs one whether it terminates on a wall or a pole. Do you need a permit.

1. A charger with no wall to hang it on

VIVO EV Charging Stand (STAND-EV01C)

VIVO EV Charging Stand (STAND-EV01C)

VIVO · Panel-mounted

A 61.7-inch steel pedestal for a driveway or parking pad, with an overhead baffle, a cable holder and a magnetic charge-port cover in the box. The catch is the mounting interface: your charger needs an M4 thread base or its own wall plate.

What is good

  • Puts a charger on a driveway or parking pad with no wall at all
  • Overhead baffle shelters the charger without a carport
  • Cable holder and universal nozzle holster built in, so the cable leaves the ground
  • Includes a waterproof magnetic cover for the car's charge port
  • 3-year warranty and a published specification table, which the unbranded pedestals do not have

What is not

  • Your charger must have an M4 thread base or bring its own adapter plate -- check before buying
  • 33 lb weight capacity rules out the heaviest hardwired units
  • VIVO's prose calls it stainless steel while its own specification table says steel and plastic; we quote the table
  • Needs a solid surface and anchoring, which is concrete work if you do not already have a pad
  • Does nothing a wall bracket would not do if you have a usable wall

2. An outdoor or shared charger you want locked

VIVO Wall-Mounted EV Charger Protective Box (MOUNT-EVCG1)

VIVO Wall-Mounted EV Charger Protective Box (MOUNT-EVCG1)

VIVO · Panel-mounted

A lockable steel enclosure for a wall-mounted charger, with a tempered glass front so you can still read the status light and two side vents so it does not cook. The honest use case is an exposed or shared parking spot.

What is good

  • Padlock and key, which is the only published anti-access feature in this category on the site
  • Tempered glass front means you can read the charger's status without unlocking it
  • Two side vents, so it is not a sealed box around a device that makes heat
  • Steel with an outdoor powder-coated finish, mountable to stud or masonry
  • 3-year warranty and a published specification table

What is not

  • Measure first: a 19.7 x 9.8 x 27.6 in box does not fit every charger, especially 80 A units
  • 27.5 lb of enclosure on the wall before the charger goes in it
  • VIVO publishes no IP or NEMA rating for the box, so weatherproofing is not a claim we can check
  • A padlock deters opportunists; it is not a serious security device
  • Pointless in a locked garage

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

Do I need a pedestal for my EV charger?
Only if there is no solid wall within cable reach of the charge port. If there is a garage, carport or exterior wall, a bracket and a holster is cheaper, stronger and needs no concrete work.
Will any EV charger fit an EV charger pedestal?
No, and this is the thing to check first. VIVO's stand requires the charger to have an M4 thread base on the back, or to include its own wall mount or adapter plate. Look at the back of your charger or its mounting instructions before ordering.
How much weight can an EV charger pedestal hold?
VIVO publishes 33 lb for its stand. Every charger on this site with a published weight is under that -- from 4.4 lb for a Wallbox Pulsar Plus body to 26.46 lb for a Grizzl-E Ultimate 80A -- so weight is rarely the limiting factor.
Is a lockable EV charger box worth it?
On an exposed exterior wall or a shared driveway, yes -- it is the only published way on this site to physically restrict access to the connector. In a locked garage it solves nothing. Note that VIVO publishes no IP or NEMA rating for the box, so it is enclosed and vented rather than certified weatherproof.
Can I put an EV charger pedestal in grass or soil?
VIVO specifies concrete floors, driveways and sidewalk applications. A 61.7-inch pole holding a charger and a heavy cable needs anchoring into a sound slab, not soft ground or pavers.
Why do you only recommend two pedestals?
Because only two products in the category come from a brand that publishes a specification table and a warranty. The rest are unbranded marketplace listings with no company site, no published weight capacity and no claimable warranty -- which we are not willing to put a $500 charger on.
Does a pedestal make an indoor charger safe outdoors?
No. A pedestal solves position, not protection. The charger itself needs an outdoor enclosure rating -- the Department of Energy's guidance is that outdoor home charging is fine with equipment rated for outdoor use.
