A connector left on the floor gets driven over, filled with grit, or kicked into a puddle. A holster and a hook cost little and fix all three.

Of everything in the accessory aisle, this is the item most setups genuinely need and the one most people skip. A connector on the floor collects dirt in its contacts and eventually meets a tire; a cable left in a heap kinks and wears. A dock by the charger and a hook for the slack solve both for very little.

Mounting it well

  • Put the dock where the connector naturally ends up, within reach of the car and the charger.
  • Hang the cable in loose loops on the hook -- not wound tight around it.
  • Keep it clear of the car's path in a tight garage, and out of standing water outdoors. Outdoor installation.
  • Mount into something solid. Use the anchors supplied, or a stud.

Do I need an EV charger holster?
If your charger does not have one built in, it is one of the most worthwhile accessories: it keeps the connector off the floor and away from dirt, water and tires.
Does a Tesla holster fit a J1772 connector?
No. NACS and J1772 connectors are different shapes, so buy the dock made for your connector.
Can an EV charger holster be mounted outside?
Lectron sells its NACS and J1772 docks for indoor and outdoor use. Mount it out of standing water and clear of the car's path.
